5kVA Solar Inverter & Rooftop PV – Lekki, Lagos (Residential)

Quiet home backup with rooftop solar and lithium storage, sized for essential loads and evening use.
The Overview!

5kVA Hybrid Solar & Rooftop PV Lekki Residential Duplex

We began with a friendly walkthrough of the duplex to understand how the family actually uses power—what stays on during outages, which rooms are busiest at night, and where equipment is located. While mapping circuits at the distribution board, we measured typical loads (lighting, fridge/freezer, TV/streaming, Wi-Fi, fans) and noted occasional loads that could be shifted to daytime (laundry, ironing). On the roof, we checked orientation/tilt, potential shading from neighboring buildings, and safe access for maintenance.

Using those findings, our engineers drafted a right-sized design: a 5kVA hybrid inverter, rooftop PV sized for daytime needs plus battery charging, and lithium storage to cover 6–8 hours of evening backup on essentials. We shared a simple single-line diagram, an itemized BoQ, and a short timeline so the homeowner knew exactly what was happening and when.

Procurement focused on bankable, warrantied components and protection gear. On installation day, we mounted the panels with corrosion-resistant rails and stainless fasteners, routed DC cabling in UV-rated trunking, and installed DC/AC isolators and surge protection to protect the system from spikes. Indoors, we created a neat “power wall” with the inverter, batteries, breakers, and clear labels—leaving enough clearance for airflow and future servicing.

Commissioning involved DC string checks, insulation resistance tests, polarity verification, and staged load testing. We configured automatic switchover, set conservative battery discharge limits for longevity, and enabled basic remote monitoring. Handover included a short training session: how to read the display, what the status lights mean, safe shutdown and restart, and simple tips for getting the most from solar (e.g., run heavy appliances when the sun is strongest).

Within days, the family noticed quieter evenings and fewer blackouts. Generator runtime dropped significantly, food stayed cold during outages, and internet remained stable for work and school. We scheduled a 30-day health check (remote) and offered an annual preventive maintenance plan to keep performance consistent over time.

The Results!

Results & Impact
Lekki Residential (5kVA)

  • Evening backup achieved: ~6–8 hours on essential loads (lighting, fridge, Wi-Fi, TV).

  • Diesel use cut: ~60% reduction in monthly generator runtime and fuel runs.

  • Quieter home: Noticeable noise reduction; family reports calmer nights during outages.

  • Stable power quality: Fewer voltage dips; better protection for electronics and appliances.

  • Estimated solar yield: ~14–18 kWh/day (seasonal, weather-dependent).

  • CO₂ avoided: ~1.5 t/year (indicative).

  • Ease of use: Simple status checks; homeowner trained on safe operation and best practices.

  • Follow-up: 30-day health check completed; annual preventive maintenance plan offered.
